Member of HASLab establishes INESC TEC Young Scientists group

Ali Shoker, post-doctoral researcher of HASLab/INESC TEC & UMinho, founded INESC TEC Young Scientists group last week. This group aims at the production of science and life amongst all centres of R&D of INESC TEC via the three pillars of action: Research and Teaching, Social Activities and Technology and Development.

The kick- off of INESC TEC Young Scientists group took place at INESC TEC, and was attended by 28 participants. The group will take advantage of the potential of INESC TEC's young scientists to foster cooperation across its research units through research, development, and social activities. This group not only benefits INESC TEC but also its young members.

The three pillars of action of the group were outlined in this meeting. Specifically, its activities will focus on research and teaching by developing, for example, project proposals, and organising scientific events. The group will also focus on social activities by organising social events and their respective dissemination, as well as on technology development by developing software and/or tools of mobile applications, for example.

“The first meeting was very important for the definition of the general framework of the group and its respective primary tasks”, Ali Shoker stated. The interactive discussions of the meeting have shown a high spirit of involvement and enthusiasm, leading to the belief that the group will be rewarding not only for INESC TEC but also for its young scientists. The group’s next steps are choosing the management team as well as defining the executive plans for the three pillars of action.

The idea of creating a group of this kind emerged in November 2015. "All big ideas start small,” said Ali Shoker.
