The High-Assurance Software Laboratory of INESC TEC - research subunit of UMinho - organized the third edition of Open Day HASLab on 8 September and launched the SafeCloud Photos. The event was attended by over 70 participants and focused on the theme "Software Quality".
In the morning, the event counted on the presence of five nationally renowned companies in the areas of technology, science and innovation. After a brief opening session conducted by the President of INESC TEC, José Manuel Mendonça, and a brief presentation of HASLab by one of the Centre’s coordinators, Manuel Barbosa¹, the discussion panel began, involving the participation of OutSystems, I2S, Feedzai, Primavera BSS and Critical Manufacturing.
In this discussion panel, moderated by José Nuno Oliveira, a researcher from HASLab and Full Professor of the University of Minho, several issues were discussed regarding software quality, as well as how the invited companies – as software producers – develop their software.
In the afternoon, doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers also had the opportunity to show their work in an exhibition consisting of about 20 posters. Later on, the launch of SafeCloud Photos took place. SafeCloud Photos is a mobile application that aims to be the safest application on the market, by ensuring maximum privacy and security of uploaded photos. SafeCloud Photos is already available for download in the App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android). According to Francisco Maia, one of the developers of this application and also a researcher from HASLab, "each divided piece of the photo doesn’t reveal absolutely any information on the photo. The photo can only be accessed through our devices, which have exclusive access to all the pieces".
Finally, the event ended with a short speech by Alcino Cunha², one of the Centre’s coordinators, encouraging possible future partnerships with companies and other present entities".
